So I know it’s Monday, but as far as I’m concerned, Waffle Sunday is better late then never. For the March edition of my ongoing Waffle Sunday series (see previous installments here, here, here, and here…) I thought I’d celebrate March’s only saving grace, St. Patrick’s Day, by making a green(ish) waffle! My Vegan Matcha Protein Waffle is packed with protein and energy, as well as being dairy and gluten free, and colored green naturally with Matcha Green Tea Powder.
Protein waffles are a fitness and health phenomenon. I bet you’ve seen them all over Instagram. They’re basically waffles made with a base of protein powder so you can eat junk food without feeling guilty. They’re not as light and fluffy as regular waffles, but more dense and filling. My recipe makes 1 serving, and is the perfect pre-workout breakfast. The vegan protein powder will power your muscles, while the matcha green tea delivers a nice dose of caffeine to rev you up.
The product I’m featuring in this recipe is 100% Matcha Green Tea Powder from Nuts.com. I buy my matcha from Nuts.com because it’s high quality, inexpensive, and most of all, DELICIOUS. If you’ve ever tried to buy matcha in a tea store, you know how outrageous the pricing can be. This 8 oz bag only costs $18.99! What a deal! Matcha has long been prized in Japan for its health benefits of antioxidants, detoxifying properties, and stress reduction. Go do yourself a favor and get some, pronto!
